The LaCinema Rugged is more than an external storage drive; it features built-in hardware decoding that lets you experience your multimedia files directly on your television and through your home entertainment system. With this compact drive, you can store and watch your television shows and movies, listen to music, and create photo slideshows to share with your friends and family from the comfort of your couch.
With 320 GB of storage, the LaCinema will store plenty of videos, music, and photos. If you don't need that much storage, the LaCinema Rugged also comes in a 250 GB version.
HDMI Allows for Connection to HDTVs
The LaCinema Rugged includes an HDMI connection, so you can watch movies and video in full high definition on your large-screen HDTV. HDMI upscaling even lets you enjoy your photos in full HD resolution. In addition to HDMI, the LaCinema also has composite and optical video outputs, and analog and optical audio connections, so you can view your files on virtually any television.
Unique, Shock-Resistant Design
World-renowned industrial designer Neil Poulton designed the LaCinema Rugged for portability, ruggedness, and looks. With its all-terrain design, you can take the LaCinema with you no matter where you go. The LaCinema features a varnished aluminum shell that is scratch-protected and a shock-resistant rubber sleeve that absorbs bumps and drops.
Bus-Powered USB 2.0
The LaCinema uses high-speed USB 2.0 for fast data transfers and compatibility with both PCs and Macs. To add files, simply plug the drive in and copy files into the appropriate folders. You can organize folders any way you like, and the LaCinema will automatically find them for playback. You can also the use the LaCinema as a standard external drive to back up and transport any files, such as Microsoft Word documents and spreadsheets, PDFs, text files, and more. Since the drive gets its power from the USB bus, you don't need to carry around any bulky power adapters.
Remote Control Included
A convenient remote control is included, letting you access and control your media file while sitting comfortably on your couch.
Wide Digital Format Support
The LaCinema Rugged supports a wide array of formats for playback, including MPEG-1, MPEG-2 (AVI, VOB, IFO, ISO), and MPEG-4 (AVI, XviD); MP3, WMA, AC3, Ogg Vorbis, and AAC (Windows AAC but not Apple AAC); JPEG (up to 8M pixels), GIF, PNG, and BMP; and the following subtitles: SRT, SSA, SUB, SMI. The LaCie LaCinema Rugged measures 3.5 x 1 x 5.7 inches (WxHxD) and is backed by a two-year warranty.

Needs an immediate firmware update
Works great. I use with my Mac and my Win XP computers. Compact and portable. You will need to go immediately to the LaCie website to download and install the latest firmware update. Will not work with the accessory rubber bumpers in assorted colors as this device has a light / IR sensor on the end for the remote-control. Regular LaCie rugged drives do not have that, so there is no slot in the rubber bumper to accommodate it. You'll have to live with the supplied black rubber bumper. All LaCie stuff works really great. I love their stuff!
